Frequently Asked Questions

Your individual treatment plan will depend on your unique skin and treatment goals. Some people see noticeable results after 3 treatments, however most people need 6-8 treatments to achieve optimal results.

There is no downtime with laser treatment. This non-invasive procedure has minimal side effects and will not leave you with prolonged skin redness. You are free to resume your normal activities immediately after treatment. Be sure to wear sunblock and avoid direct sunlight, as is necessary after any laser treatment.

How long your results last can depend on several factors, including lifestyle, genetics, sun exposure, and environmental factors. For some people, results last for years, while for others, not as long. To maintain your results for longer, you may need maintenance treatments every six months. It is also essential to follow a skincare regime at home and use sunscreen every day. Fortunately, if you see new signs of aging appear, Aerolase laser treatment is available to address your concerns.

No, there is just a mild, very tolerable sensation of heat. This is one of the key technical breakthroughs of Aerolase technology! The device has set a new standard for virtually pain-free treatment, even on darker skin types, thanks to MicroPulse-1064 technology.

You should NOT be treated if you are:

1) Pregnant

2) Sunburned or have irritated skin in the sites to be treated

3) Exhibiting unidentified skin conditions in the sites to be treated

4) Prone to healing poorly after other types of laser treatments

5) Prone to skin discoloration

6) Taking photosensitizing medication, such as Accutane, should discontinue the medication 6 months before treatment

7) Taking topical Retin-A, patients should wait 2 weeks before treatment

8) Suffering from Lupus and other light sensitive conditions

9) Sunburned you should wait until the burn subsides. Herpes Simplex Labialis (fever blisters) can be activated by laser treatment, especially on the upper lip, and patients with a tendency for fever blistering can be started on antiviral medication before treatment.

Improvement may be seen anywhere from 3-8 weeks depending on the severity of the condition and your skin’s reaction to the therapy. Some skin conditions may worsen before it gets better. It is important to realize that there is no cure for acne, only maintenance, so further treatment may be required in the future.

There is no cure for acne, only maintenance, so further treatment may be required in the future. This will vary patient to patient and some will have greater results than others depending on the severity of their acne, their skin type and their daily maintenance.

Actually, the Aerolase LightPod Neo is the safest laser in the industry for darker skin types or tanned skin. This is because of MicroPulse-1064 technology, which essentially eliminates treatment pain while minimizing the chances of hyper and/ or hypo- pigmentation.

Yes, during the normal course of acne treatment the laser light will also help to lessen any cratering or pock marks caused by acne. This is enabled by the laser light superheating the water within the skin’s dermis and helping rebuild and regrow both collagen and elastin, effectively helping smooth out any imperfections left behind from acne.

Typically, melasma will slowly lighten over the course of the next few days to weeks as the pigmented area is slowly absorbed into the skin by your body’s natural healing process. In some cases, the pigment will darken before becoming lighter. In the event that any crusting or scabbing occurs, it is important to always keep the area moist as to reduce the risk of scarring.

Melasma is typically characterized by having up and down periods where the symptoms heighten and lessen. While the laser light can help lighten or completely rid of the pigmentation factors such as sun exposure, hormones and your genetic disposition can play a role in a reoccurrence of the symptoms.

Improvement may be seen anywhere immediately after the treatment to a few weeks after the first treatment. Typically a session every month for 6 months is required. Patients should notice considerable results during the entire course of treatments and for another 6 months after the treatment due to the constant growth of new collagen and elastin. It is important to realize that there is no way to stop the skin’s aging process, so further treatment may be required in the future.

While your skin will appear firmer, more full and both red and brown spots will diminish, the skin will continue to age so maintenance treatments may be required in the future. To reduce the signs of aging it is important to wear sunscreen, which will slow any increase of wrinkles and sun damage.

The best candidates for skin rejuvenation are patients aged 30-55 showing the initial signs of aging such as fine lines, minor wrinkles, sun damage and vessels as well as signs of reduced skin laxity. Other patients may respond to such treatments, but as a segment, the patients aforementioned typically see the best results. Patients should begin to see results immediately after the treatment and the results will continue to become better over time. After the complete set of treatments (typically once a month for 6 months) patients can expect to see the results continue for the next six months, after which they can start the treatments again.

A laser consultation is required PRIOR to receiving any Aerolase treatment.  Before and after your scheduled treatment you will be provided pre and post care instructions to help extend the benfits of your treatment.
